Doggies Dreams February 26, 2009

There is nothing me, Bubba and Allie enjoy more than an afternoon nap.  I enjoy it because it gives that little pick me up for the rest of the day and evening.  I think the dogs enjoy it for the dreams.

I’m sure they dream at night, but I notice it more in the afternoon.  One of them will start moving their muzzles, then their feet.  They almost always make a puppy kind of bark.  This can go on from several seconds to several minutes.

I always wonder what they are dreaming about.  Since they are Jack Russell’s I think they are dreaming about the hunt and chase.  I’m sure they’re after some rabbit or fox.  I also wonder if they remember their dreams.

I guess this will remain a mystery.

anatomy-anotated_jack_russellIt’s been 2 weeks since Bubba was diagnosed with diabetes and we are all doing very well.

The new eating schedule is getting to be routine.  Most of the time Bubba doesn’t even mind the shots, which we are feeling more comfortable giving.

It made me feel so bad the first week when I would eat in front of Bubba and Allie.  For almost nine years we had always let them lick the dinner plates.  Instead, now what we do is maybe give them a piece of their food.

Both dogs are losing a little weight, but it’s controlled and because we are measuring their food we know they are getting enough to eat.

The energy levels they have is almost like having puppies again.  I’m not sure that’s a good thing when they are Jack Russell’s, but it’s much better than having Bubba sick.

Bubba’s Day November 27, 2008

You may call it Thanksgiving, but in our house, it’s Bubba Day.  There is a toss up as to Bubba’s favorite activity.  It’s either eating or sleeping, it’s hard to tell which, so this is a perfect day for him.

He is in fact a Jack Russell, but I know that somewhere in him there has to be a recessive hound gene.  His sister Allie is a true Jack Russell.  She can jump in place, she plays with her toy’s and us all the time, and her tail and tongue are always wagging.  Bubba lays on the couch and watches her.

Bubba is laying on the couch right now, on his back with all four legs straight out.  His nose twitches every now and then so I know he is alive and smelling the food.  He’ll time it just right and not wake up until the food is ready.

Yeah, it might be Thanksgiving everywhere else in America today, but at our house, it is most definitely Bubba’s Day.  Have a good one boy.

I thought about starting another blog starring our Jack Russell’s, Bubba and Allie.  But then I thought about just adding stories about them to this blog.  It really does fit, they love to play in dirt.  They also love to roll in the grass, dig in the dirt, eat bugs and wonder through the vegetable garden when the fence is open.  Bubba, yes he is a male, loves to pee on all the flowers.  That’s about as close as any of my plants get to fertilizer.  I have two of the best garden helpers ever.  They are the only reason I have not planted the entire backyard in gardens.  Jack’s need room to run and play.  So I happily share the yard with them.

The picture above is not Bubba and Allie, but it isa group of really cute Jack’s and our two look pretty much just like them.  If I can get them to hold still I’ll try and take their picture to post.
